Serge, Marc and Yvan have been good friends for a long time. They know everything about each other, but suddenly, Serge does something totally unbelievable. He buys a painting for $200,000. A totally white canvas. Is that art? Is that good art, or at least, art that is worth that much money? And most important of all... Can the mere fact that one’s friends don’t understand or approve of the purchase of a painting really break up one’s friendships? A single white canvas raises lots of questions about friendship, beauty, and values.

During the past few decades, Yasmina Reza’s Art (1994) has been one of the most popular French comedies in the world and has won all the major French theatre awards. Art was staged at the Estonian Drama Theatre in 1998 by Hendrik Toompere, who has also staged Yasmina Reza's Angel of Destruction and Bella Figura.
