The Soloist
“The Soloist” is a story of a person with extraordinary passion based on the autobiographical novels by Käbi Laretei.
As the daughter of the Estonian diplomat Heinrich Laretei, Käbi was forced to leave Tallinn Conservatory at age 18 to flee to Sweden from the war. With great willpower and the help of private tutors, she became an outstanding concert pianist against all odds. She has performed on the biggest stages of Europe and North America including the Royal Festival Hall and Carnegie Hall.
Apart from a very successful career, she had two children, many passionate relationships and two marriages: the first one with a top conductor and the second with a world-famous film director. How does all this fit into the life of one person? In an interview with Urmas Ott, Käbi Laretei said: “I am a greedy person. I want everything. But if one wants everything, will they get it?”
