SCHUBERTIADE

March 21, 2024 in the Chamber Hall of the Estonian National Opera

Early spring sun rays and waters are warming your heart. Thus was also inspired Franz Schubert who spending his holiday in the middle of colourful Austrian nature wrote his piano quintet A major “The Trout” D. 667, Op. 114, a rich and melodious piece. It is one of the highlights of chamber repertoire, nicknamed after Schubert’s eponymous Lied that the composer used as a theme and variation in one of the quintet’s movements. Schubert’s chamber music was meant for making music among friends at home. Songs take a central part in his output and lay a foundation for the whole genre of Lied. Soloists: Heldur Harry Põlda (tenor), Mari Poll-Novakovic (violin), Kaarel Veenre (viola), Andreas Lend (cello), Michele Bonfante (bass), accompanied by Jaan Ots on the piano.

Kogu Schuberti kammermuusika on loodud sõpradega koduses ringis musitseerimiseks. Eriline koht tema loomingus kuulus lauludele, millega helilooja paneb aluse kogu liedi žanrile

MUSICAL VOYAGE

April 18, 2024 in the Chamber Hall of the Estonian National Opera

The concert takes us on a voyage with the music of Franz Schubert, Léo Delibes, Henri Duparc, Richard Strauss and Reynaldo Hahn. German and French Romanticism, both in music and literature, loved the picturesque theme of wandering that has left us with numerous magnificent works. The title of the concert is inspired by Henri Duparc’s song “L’invitation au voyage” (“Invitation to Journey”) written in 1870 to the verses of the most famous French romantic writer Charles Baudelaire. At the time, Baudelaire was in love with an actress and the verses invite the readers to discover the beauty of scenery and world through the eyes of a lover. Soloists: Janne Shevtshenko (soprano), Raiko Raalik (bass), Eda Peäske (harp), Lisa Kawasaki-Järvi (flute), accompanied by Riina Pikani on the piano.
